[NetEase Home] Why did you enter the design industry in the first place? What keeps you in the design field?
[Wu Defeng]: In fact, I have been paying close attention to the design industry since I was in school, so I chose to study interior design at Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. After graduation, I naturally entered this industry; interior design is not a simple industry, and now I have insisted on originality. I have been designing for 19 years, and many of my classmates have already chosen to change careers. I have been able to persist for such a long time only because I have a love for design in my heart and find happiness in the design process, so I can regard design as my career.

[NetEase Home] Who is the design master you admire most? What kind of designer do you want to be?
[Wu Defeng]: After all, we are majoring in design. During school, we understood and studied the concepts of many masters, including Mr. Pei Luming’s concept of natural integration, and Mr. He Wuxian’s concept of "life Zen" in interior design. We were all exposed to them. We who design have set a good example; I think design is a way of thinking, an ability to innovate, and a process of continuous efforts to pursue excellence. I hope that my works will always have the gene of vitality and innovation.

[NetEase Home] In your design career, was there any painful and painful stage? How did you get through it at that time? What wealth did that stage leave for you now?
[Wu Defeng]: To be honest, the difficult period was when I just graduated and was relatively poor (laughing). I chose to develop in Chongqing in 2004. At that time, I was unfamiliar with the place and my work and life were relatively difficult. I could only rely on more low-cost plans to make a living. I only ate noodles every day and often stayed up all night to make plans. A tireless feeling. During that time, the project was actually not very difficult, but the large number of works allowed me to accumulate a lot of experience, contact with many customers, and better understand the true meaning of what the customers wanted to express, which played a role in changing quantitative to qualitative changes in future designs.

[NetEase Home] In order to become an excellent designer, in addition to the well-known qualities of motivation and talent, what other qualities or qualities do you think are crucial?
[Wu Defeng]: I think the first thing is to be sincere. Treat each of your works with sincerity, treat every customer as your friend, and treat every customer sincerely. Only then can you work with your heart and produce good works.
[NetEase Home] As an experienced person, how do you think you should respond to the vague and abstract needs of customers? How do you come up with a plan to make a good design?
[Wu Defeng]: In fact, this situation is very common. After all, customers are not specialized in design. They can only express how they want to feel. But since they have found you, they must believe in your professional knowledge. Any design work we do must be based on customer needs as the starting point and market effect as the guide. Only when customers are truly satisfied and enjoy the convenient life brought by design can it be considered successful. Therefore, as a designer, you need constant communication. You must judge and guide them, deeply understand their real needs, give customers professional suggestions, and actively guide customers to think in a good direction.

[NetEase Home] How do you understand the theme of "China's New Design Youth"?
[Wu Defeng]: I personally believe that since we are the "New Youth of Chinese Design", we cannot do without the word "new" and must implement "new creativity", "new energy" and "new spirit". We should have a certain influence on this industry. Only by providing positive guidance, being responsible to customers, delivering positive energy, gradually forming good norms and references for future designs, and bringing good designs to customers can we be worthy of this theme.
